Reporting to the Vice President of R&D,  the Director, Hardware Engineering is a key leader within OTT’s product development organization, responsible for setting the hardware engineering vision and leading multidisciplinary teams across electrical, mechanical, chemical, and product compliance functions.

This position is part of the Research & Development organization and will be hybrid in Fort Collins, CO, going 3 days a week to the office.
 

In this role, a typical day will look like:

  • Defining and executing the long‑term hardware engineering strategy aligned with business objectives
  • Leading and developing senior managers and engineering leaders across multiple disciplines
  • Partnering with Product Management, Software, and UX to align technology roadmaps and priorities
  • Owning and improving the hardware development lifecycle with a strong focus on quality and risk management
  • Driving design-for-quality practices and sustaining engineering for existing products.
  • Ensuring development and test processes meet product quality, reliability, and availability goals
  • Supporting budgeting, resource planning, and financial decision‑making
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory and certification standards (e.g., UL, CE, FCC, IP ratings)

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of combined professional experience including new product development of hardware or electromechanical products.
  • Extensive experience leading complex hardware or electromechanical product development programs
  • Strong knowledge of design for reliability and manufacturability
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and product certification standards
  • Proven experience with engineering budgets, resource planning, and operational excellence

It would be nice if you also possess:

  • 3+ years in a director-level position overseeing multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience developing waterproof sensors or ruggedized instrumentation for field monitoring of water quality.
  • Experience with analog/digital electronics and sensor technologies.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring industry standards and customer applications.
