At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As a Systems Administrator, a typical day will include the following duties:

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for providing proactive, technical systems admin support to fast-paced operational projects. The ideal candidate will benefit from knowledge of software development, systems and enterprise architecture, software engineering, data engineering/management, and general problem-solving skills.  In addition to embodying a passion for continuous improvement and innovation, a successful candidate should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of operations and their relevant support.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and work/military experience
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Leverage industry/government standards and widely accepted best practices to define processes and procedures that ensure secure and reliably functioning systems and services
  •  Assist in identifying and tracking of project action items, tracking and monitoring of ongoing projects and initiatives, coordination of project schedule(s), and capturing meeting minutes
  •  Assist the project manager with assessing, documenting, and tracking project requirements
  •  Collaborate with customers and project leadership to set priorities, implement tasking, and provide deliverables that are compliant with project schedules, priorities, and standards
  •  Collaborate with a variety of customers and contractors, which may include technical consultation, meeting coordination and support (e.g., TEMs), and preparation/support of technical briefings
  •  Work in partnership with the ISSO to ensure efficient processing and successful implementation of POAMs and RFCs

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  •  Demonstrated experience in:
    •  tailoring project management and systems engineering fundamentals in complex environments
    •  optimizing work processes within the operations and support functions of the systems lifecycle
    •  providing project support
    •  effectively communicating (verbally and in writing) across teams
    • managing priorities across multiple teams
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio
  • Experience validating requirements with cross functional teams of engineer, data scientists, analysts and other senior level technical staff

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •  In-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices
  •  Familiarity with technologies such as Windows, Linux, NiFi, Storage, Oracle, Greenplum, Hadoop, HPCC, and Elastic Search.
