The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the world’s leading research and development laboratory for renewable energy technologies, is seeking to hire an undergraduate or post undergraduate intern with a background in civil engineering or similar field. NREL - Alaska promotes and advances the development of healthy, durable, sustainable shelter for Alaska and the circumpolar north. Through its core programs of building science research, policy research, and design, the team at NREL’s Alaska Campus researches and develops building and retrofit techniques, mechanical systems, and foundations that have improved the performance and affordability of homes statewide. NREL incorporates these technologies in demonstration homes and outreach activities across the state that reflect climate and culture. This is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-focused, interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of science, culture, and community resilience in the land of adventure.
The successful candidate will be working with the building science team and supporting research projects in a laboratory setting. The primary responsibilities for this intern will be:
- Working with researchers developing systems meant to positively affect life in rural Alaskan communities;
- Designing and executing community outreach efforts;
- Keeping a project logbook;
