Berger Transfer & Storage, Inc is seeking a Jr. Accountant to join our team in St. Paul, MN! The Jr. Accountant provides accounting and analytical services within the finance and accounting areas as well as across functional boundaries.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Complete daily cash management reports including credit facility transaction and internal reporting, monitoring transactional activity, and promptly researching unexpected activity to the appropriate people;
- Perform daily tasks necessary to import and post transactions to the general ledger system;
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts by preparing reconciliation reports, adjusting entries, identifying root causes for reconciling items, and propose actions to avoid recurrences;
- Prepare journal entries, both adjusting and recurring, based upon appropriate supporting documentation and obtaining supervisor review and approval;
- Enter journal entries into a ledger system, maintaining a list of recurring entries and indicate when completed as well as maintaining an organized file of personal journal entries;
- Prepare financial and other reports using accounting software and spreadsheets, primarily including internal periodic reports as well as occasional governmental reports and returns;
- Perform analysis and research of operating results in assigned organizational units as part of periodic month-end closes in collaboration with responsible operating managers;
- Review and approve expense reports using Concur software for integration into ERP system
- Vendor request set up
- Assist with year-end audit preparation
- Other duties as assigned by management.
The successful candidate for this position will share the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (required);
- Associate degree with an emphasis on Finance/Accounting (required);
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Finance/Accounting (preferred);
- One to three years of experience in an automated business accounting environment;
- Experience should include account analysis and reconciliation tasks;
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ability to apply them;
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision to meet daily and other deadlines;
- Verbal and written interpersonal skills;
- Ability and willingness to suggest new work approaches and consider alternate approaches to tasks;
- Willing to be flexible and change work approach to accommodate changing business needs;
- Willing to accept new task assignments;
- Familiarity with computer skills which include spreadsheets, databases, and other software applications;
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite including Dynamics GP (not required).
