Interventional Cardiology Therapies, PCI Guidance and Imaging (ICTx)

As a Senior R&D Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical & biomedical engineers in the design, development, and commercialization of innovative catheter-based medical devices within the Interventional Cardiology division of Boston Scientific.  Your primary responsibility will be leading a team of R&D engineers in driving the development of new catheter-based products within the PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) Guidance and IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) imaging R&D team.

 

You will perform as a hands-on technical leader in a fast-growing area with significant investment from the franchise. If possible, you will utilize your catheter experience to mentor a team of engineers in catheter development.  In addition, you will exhibit a blend of technical knowledge, business acumen, coaching ability, fact-based decision making, project management expertise, and collaborative stakeholder management. You will foster an environment that encourages people to take measured risks, learn from mistakes, and push the boundaries of engineering.  

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

• Recruiting, coaching, and developing engineering talent.

• Assessing catheter-based project team needs across Interventional Cardiology and working with technical leads and program managers to ensure they are set up for technology and product development success.

• Providing direction and/or guidance to engineers who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments.  Will also supervise non-exempt employees and external contract design firm employees.

• Making decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules in order to achieve department objectives.

• Developing, monitoring and appropriately adjusting the annual budget for department.

 

 

Required minimum qualifications: 

 

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.

• 10+ years of engineering work experience (preferably in medical device or related field) with Bachelor’s degree, 8+ years of engineering experience with a Master’s degree, or 6+ yrs experience with a PhD degree.

• 3+ years’ experience in leading and developing a technical engineering group.

• Proficient in design controls and risk management practices with fluency in what external regulations require for various product approvals.

• Highly creative problem solver who leads with a sense of urgency.
