Job Description
About the Role
Verisk Extreme Event Solutions (VEES, previously AIR Worldwide), a member of Verisk Analytics, is the scientific leader and most respected provider of risk modeling software and consulting services. VEES founded the catastrophe modeling industry in 1987 and today models the risk from natural catastrophes, terrorism, and pandemic outbreaks in 90 countries. VEES offers the opportunity to work with advanced technologies, global clients, and hundreds of the most innovative, talented minds in the industry.
This senior earthquake engineer research position is responsible for leading and improving the development of the damage estimation component of VEES earthquake models. These models cover worldwide regions and include multiple perils such as ground shaking, liquefaction, landslide, fire-following, sprinkler leakage, and tsunami. The damage estimation component quantifies the impact these perils on the built environment and society in terms of physical damage to properties (buildings and contents), loss of use (downtime), and human loss and casualty. The candidate will work closely with a team of structural and geotechnical engineers, seismologists, and specialists to perform model validation, deterministic and probabilistic risk assessment, and present and explain results to internal stakeholders and external clients.
Evolving nature of research work at VEES creates unique and challenging problems that spark innovation and growth for VERISK and creates opportunities for its employees. A successful candidate should have a strong technical background in earthquake, structural, geotechnical, or civil engineering. Candidates are expected to be highly motivated, detail oriented, excellent team player, and capable of utilizing problem-solving skills to solve problems as new areas of modeling emerges.
