Key Responsibilities

Compensation Strategy

  • Lead the design and administration of base pay, incentive, bonus, and executive compensation programs.
  • Conduct job evaluations, market pricing, and benchmarking to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Manage annual merit, bonus, and salary planning cycles within Workday.
  • Develop compensation structures that support performance, career progression, and retention.

Benefits & Total Rewards

  • Oversee health, welfare, retirement, and wellness programs.
  • Lead and manage Reference-Based Pricing (RBP) healthcare plans, including vendor relationships, plan performance, and employee education.
  • Partner with RBP vendors, TPAs, stop-loss carriers, and consultants to control costs and improve outcomes.
  • Analyze claims, utilization, and cost trends to inform benefits strategy and plan design.
  • Develop employee communication strategies to improve understanding and adoption of RBP plans and mitigate balance billing issues.

Payroll Leadership

  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of multi-state, multi-entity payroll operations.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing, including wages, incentives, deductions, and benefits integration.
  • Oversee payroll controls, audits, reconciliations, and tax filings.
  • Partner closely with Finance and Accounting on payroll funding, reporting, and general ledger integration.

Workday Ownership & Systems

  • Serve as the functional owner for Workday, Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll modules.
  • Lead system configuration, enhancements, testing, and optimization.
  • Partner with IT and external vendors on Workday implementations, upgrades, and integrations.
  • Develop reporting and dashboards within Workday to support executive decision-making. Ensure data integrity across HR, payroll, and benefits systems.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FLSA, wage & hour, payroll tax laws).
  • Manage audits, plan documentation, nondiscrimination testing, and regulatory filings.
  • Monitor legislative changes affecting compensation, benefits, and payroll and proactively recommend adjustments.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll teams.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on total rewards and payroll strategy.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners to support workforce planning and talent initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Operations, and external vendors.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, and payroll leadership.
  • Direct experience managing Reference-Based Pricing (RBP) healthcare plans.
  • Hands-on expertise with Workday, including Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll modules.
  • Strong knowledge of self-funded healthcare plans and cost containment strategies.
  • Deep understanding of multi-state payroll regulations and wage & hour compliance.
  • Advanced analytical, financial modeling, and reporting skills.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree Experience in distribution, or multi-location organizations.
  • Workday implementation or optimization experience.
