Job Description Summary

The need for clean energy is greater than ever. At GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) we are helping address climate change by designing technology to power our future with reliable, affordable, carbon-free energy. We are a world leader in advanced reactor technology, fuel and services. Join us as we build our legacy, boldly innovating to provide carbon-free power to the world.

We are a diverse and dedicated global team who believes in the value of your unique identity, background, and experiences. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture, where everyone feels empowered to do their best work because they feel accepted, respected, and that they belong. By embracing diverse teams and perspectives, we are better equipped to build a world that works.

This position is part of the Nuclear Engineering team and is responsible for planning, developing, and executing first-of-a-kind (FOAK) and subsequent advanced nuclear reactor projects globally. In this role, you will lead the systems and design engineering team to deliver multiple FOAK BWRX-300 projects in parallel. You will develop an engineering resourcing strategy with key suppliers to enable flexible, cost-effective delivery of plant-specific engineering design, supporting successful project execution. Working in close partnership with project engineering, site construction, and commissioning teams, you will ensure the timely completion and delivery of design work. This role is accountable for delivering all engineering design outputs required to support the construction and commissioning of small modular reactors (SMRs) across the United States, Europe, and Canada.

Job Description

As the BWRX-300 Systems & Design Executive Leader, you will:

  • Lead and scale the systems and design engineering organization, with full accountability for the on-time, on-budget delivery of design programs supporting multiple BWRX-300 projects.
  • Direct and integrate technical interfaces across internal teams, customers, partners, subcontractors, architect engineers (A/Es), EPCs, and regulatory agencies to ensure alignment and rapid resolution of complex issues.
  • Forge and strengthen trusted relationships with engineering leaders, business leaders, external partners, customers, and regulators to enable effective collaboration and execution.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination across engineering, project teams, supply chain, and external stakeholders to resolve emergent design challenges, protect project schedules, and embed lessons learned into future deployments.
  • Design and execute a flexible engineering resourcing strategy that optimizes internal capabilities and external partnerships, maximizes standard design reuse, and improves cost efficiency across projects.
  • Build and transform the organization, operating model, and delivery processes required to efficiently execute large, complex BWRX-300 projects across multiple customers and sites.
  • Monitor, assess, and communicate program performance, resource utilization, risks, delays, and trends, while partnering with Finance and Operations to actively manage budgets, risks, and opportunities.
  • Shape and advance the business vision, program strategy, and technical roadmap for new plant initiatives and strategic programs, and influence senior leaders through clear recommendations and risk-based decision support.
  • Guide and optimize the use of external engineering resources and strategic partner alliances, including support for negotiations with A/Es and EPCs, to ensure high-quality, flexible, and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Champion nuclear safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property protection across all engineering activities.
  • Recruit, develop, and inspire a high-performing engineering team capable of delivering in a complex, integrated nuclear project environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related science or technical discipline
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in engineering design and/or project leadership experience
  • At least 6 years of experience in the nuclear industry or equivalent large scale new build experience in the power industry

Desired Characteristics:

  • Expertise in Lean principles and practices, with a demonstrated ability to drive immediate impact, lead change, and improve engineering and business performance.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build high-performing teams, influence across organizations, and work effectively across geographically dispersed teams.
