The Position

Roche is committed to advancing the practice of medicine and improving patient lives, emphasizing timely and reliable diagnostics to meet patient needs. As an Automation Technician, you will play a pivotal role within this mission by maintaining and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and providing technical expertise. This role ensures the functionality of automated and semi-automated machinery, involves supporting validations and calibrations, and updating preventive maintenance schedules when necessary, all to contribute to reliable diagnostics delivery.
 

In this role, you will monitor equipment for improvements, address safety and product concerns, and ensure compliance with quality regulations. You’ll assist in training new employees, share best practices, and work on projects involving new equipment and processes. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for collaborating with leadership and guiding team members, all while identifying opportunities to enhance production and workflow efficiency.

The Opportunity

Safety and Quality (10%)

  • You will maintain Right to Operate and ensure that all processes are performed in a safe and healthy manner; Address and escalate any potentially unsafe hazards; Timely reporting and may assist in timely investigation of safety hazards, incidents and near misses using safety reporting tools.

  • Maintain the quality system and achieve our quality objectives. 

  • Utilize Lockout/Tagout/Tryout (LOTOTO) procedures.

  • Audit readiness (OSHA, FAA, FDA, etc.); may be required to represent their team during internal audits/inspections.

  • Inventory accuracy and adherence to inventory control processes (TECO, Cycle counts, etc).

Production (70%)

  • Maintain and repair automated and semi-automated production and test equipment in accordance with work instructions, operating procedures and manuals, and manufacturer specifications. 

  • You will perform preventive maintenance service for all supported equipment and coordinate with other technicians and equipment owners to arrange downtime as needed.

  • Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical issues to resolve problems in a timely manner. 

  • Maximize equipment uptime during troubleshooting to determine if problems can be removed or mitigated to avoid repeat failures.

  • Apply basic automation concepts on complex machinery to improve performance. 

  • Respond effectively to emergencies and provide after-hours/off shift support as needed.

  • Participate in the design and implementation of new equipment.

Continuous Improvement (10%)

  • Identifies and implements improvements to equipment and instrument maintenance to minimize unscheduled downtime.

  • You will Participate/lead in 6S activities and utilizes LEAN tools to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in the monitoring of machine data and status for trending and response  purposes.

Teamwork and Collaboration (10%)

  • Communicate and interact with supported departments to ensure satisfactory performance of machines, equipment, instruments, and systems. 

  • You will proactively collaborates with peers in other shifts/functions to ensure machines are able to meet production demand. 

  • Assist in the successful onboarding of new employees and contractors. 

  • May collaborate with cross-functional teams on new production processes.

  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Who You Are

  • You have a High School Diploma/GED, (required)

  • You have an Associates Degree in STEM field (preferred)

  • You have 3 years experience with troubleshooting and repair of electronic or mechanical equipment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

  • Intermediate understanding of industrial process instrumentation, automation, equipment maintenance, and basic automation concepts, with familiarity in sensors, motors, and cylinders.
