Director, Yale Institute for Global Health (YIGH)

Description

The Yale University Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health are jointly recruiting a Director of the Yale Institute for Global Health (YIGH). The next leader of YIGH will be provided with the responsibility and resources necessary to further expand global health activities across Yale’s campus and beyond the University, including the development of innovative research, clinical and educational programs.

Harnessing the breadth of expertise of the three lead schools (medicine, nursing, and public health), as well as the University and its international partners, YIGH serves as a hub for global health activities at Yale. Through active collaboration across disciplines and by catalyzing opportunities for innovation, YIGH aims to promote the translation of scientific discoveries into better health for all, while training the next generation of leaders in global health. It currently has 237 affiliated faculty, 14 faculty networks, has provided $1.1M in seed funding to faculty and students, and supports four flagship programs (see “Fast Facts” below, for more). 

Key Responsibilities of the Director will be to:

• Expand Yale’s global health footprint by leveraging the University’s expertise and record of achievement in cutting-edge research, education and training. 
• Strengthen global partnerships with peer institutions, government ministries, professional associations, foundations and non-governmental organizations. 
• Develop new cross-campus initiatives in global health, including interdisciplinary collaborations with faculty from Yale’s undergraduate, graduate and professional schools. 
• Mentor students, trainees and early career faculty to develop sustainable global health programs and successfully compete for external funding. 
• Support global health education at Yale (including undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral programs), ensuring alignment with academic best practices and University strategic priorities.
• Identify and cultivate opportunities for external support of YIGH programs, working closely with the University development office. 
• Ensure that Yale demonstrates leadership in global health equity in sponsored programs and partnerships with individuals and institutions.
• Disseminate the impact and achievements of YIGH-affiliated students and faculty to relevant stakeholders, including development of a communication strategy that encompasses academic scholarly output, as well as traditional and social media outreach.

Yale Institute for Global Health Fast Facts:

• YIGH has 237 affiliated faculty and sponsors 14 interdisciplinary Faculty Networks across a variety of thematic areas in global health.
• As of May 2024, YIGH has provided nearly $1.1 million in seed grant investments to Yale faculty in support of innovative programs in global health. These investments have catalyzed $9.5 million in external funding.
• The YIGH Leadership in Global Health Fellowship leverages partnerships with the World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, International Rescue Committee, GAVI, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Since program inception, 57 Yale students and trainees have participated in this summer internship and mentoring program.
