POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer is responsible for promoting fitness and wellness through the YMCA personal training program; the trainer must understand and have a commitment to serving the general population in their pursuit of health and well-being; be proficient in developing and facilitating safe, well-planned individual and small group sessions; be able to build positive relationships with members and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Builds member connections to staff, members, programs of interest, and the YMCA mission and core values.
- Works with clients via fitness assessments and personal training appointments to determine their baseline abilities, needs and physical conditions.
- Plans safe, effective workout sessions and teaches proper form and breathing techniques during physical exertion.
- Maintains client records and communicates with participants in a timely manner.
- Ensures that YMCA personal training policies are adhered to by coworkers and clients.
- Ensures all sessions are financially accounted for by participants and all payment receipts are properly handled.
- Follows all safety and risk management protocols and reports any safety issues to the supervisor.
- Assists in the promotion of the YMCA personal training program.
- Maintains a clean work environment and equipment, including proper use of equipment.
- Is knowledgeable of all health & wellness programs and shares this information with members.
- Attends staff meetings and follows dress code
- Other duties as assigned and required by business necessity.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to motivate and promote health and wellness to members
- Ability to relate well to participants of all ages and fitness levels
- Flexible schedule. Early morning, evening, and weekend hours.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to work with varying wellness levels and ages
- Organizational skills to track clients progress
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations; render necessary assistance during emergency situations.
- Must be able to engage strangers in conversations and make all people feel welcome
- Ability to attend all training and meetings as required
- Must pass a criminal background check
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, bend, stoop, reach, squat. May have prolonged periods of physical exertion including running, lifting and stretching.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Nationally recognized personal training certification
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Trainings or must complete at first opportunity after hire.
