Job Description

Work Arrangement

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Global Technical Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.

Travel Requirements

This position requires up to 50% travel, depending on project demands and timelines. During the launch phase, the engineer will be on-site at the assigned production facility for 12 to 18 months, with scheduled travel home typically occurring every other weekend.

The Role

The BIW Senior Manufacturing/Process Engineer operates independently with minimal supervision. This role is responsible for designing and refining manufacturing processes, assessing equipment and tooling options, and optimizing operational flow to maximize the efficiency of personnel, materials, machinery, and facilities in the production of parts and assemblies.

Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering or assembly/plant setting, where creativity, initiative, and sound judgment are essential. As an individual contributor, you will lead cross-functional project teams and mentor peers within the final line manufacturing engineering group.

What You'll Do:

  • Define manufacturing processes and budgets, including operation sequencing and equipment selection, with a focus on efficient material flow.

  • Lead project teams through design, construction, integration, plant installation, launch, and continuous improvement of equipment and tools for high-quality assembly production, while managing project budgets.

  • Actively gather and incorporate stakeholder and customer feedback to develop solutions that align customer needs with business objectives.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance manufacturing strategies and internal operations.

  • Drive build validation activities during program launches to meet throughput and quality goals, including dimensional accuracy, surface quality, welding, and torque specifications.

  • Develop and test advanced process technologies, solving complex problems with limited precedent.

  • Mentor junior engineers by sharing technical expertise, lean principles, and lessons learned to foster team development.
