The Ho’okahua Cultural Vibrancy Group at Kamehameha Schools is seeking a talented Cultural Consultant II, Video Production to join our team. The mission of the Ho’okahua Cultural Vibrancy Group is to ensure that Hawaiian cultural vibrancy is cultivated, sustained, and thrives in perpetuity throughout Kamehameha Schools.
To fulfill this mission, the ideal candidate is a skilled video producer with experience in video production, including concept development, equipment and logistics, filming, audio, editing, and distribution. A strong grounding in Hawaiian culture is essential for this role, and moderate fluency in ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i (Hawaiian language) is strongly preferred.
Candidates must also have experience in video editing and production, particularly for work produced through a Hawaiian cultural lens or within the Hawaiian community.
Job Summary
The Cultural Consultant II serves as a resident expert in Hawaiian culture with highly specialized knowledge in areas such as language, history, material arts, design, video/media arts, performing arts, native rights and self-determination, traditional practices, ceremonies, protocol, Pacific indigenous relations, etc. for Kamehameha Schools and the Kaʻiwakīloumoku Indigenous Pacific Institute. This advanced consultant provides Hawaiian Cultural guidance, advice, and leadership to promote and support cultural vibrancy and Hawaiian worldview throughout the KS system and the Hawaiian community. The Consultant II will provide instruction and cultural mentoring to adults and student learners within KS and the community. The Consultant II contributes to and guides the strategic and tactical direction of the division to promote, embed, and integrate indigenous knowledge, worldviews, and approaches throughout KS, providing advice to the Executive Cultural Officer, and other KS Senior Leaders, and overseeing special projects that integrate themes of Hawaiian identity, leadership, aloha ʻāina, entrepreneurship, Lāhui advocacy, and indigenous Pacific-Polynesian heritage.
Strategic Cultural Guidance
Provide consultancy and advice on the cultural strategy to the Executive Cultural Officer and other KS Senior Leaders.
Provides guidance on culture-based communications and media to promote Hawaiian voice and worldview in internal and external KS communication mediums.
Provides cultural approaches, perspectives and solutions regarding institutional initiatives, directions, and issues.
Provides ways to strengthen, promote, and deepen understanding of KS' culture and heritage brand.
Cultural Production and Instruction
Develop and deliver cultural content through direct instruction and cultural mentoring to KS staff, students, and community members.
Promote and model the use of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and Hawaiian worldviews.
Integrate thematic emphasis on Hawaiian identity, leadership, aloha ʻāina, entrepreneurship, Lāhui advocacy, and indigenous Pacific-Polynesian heritage.
