Job Overview

The Director, Data Quality builds and scales the processes, rules, and tools that ensure Macy’s enterprise data remains complete, consistent, timely, and fit for use. This leader drives the development of data quality policies and monitors adherence across critical domains, partnering closely with teams in MDM, Catalog/Lineage, and Data Engineering. From profiling and validation to root-cause analysis and remediation, the Director proactively identifies and resolves data quality issues. Success in this role requires strong cross-functional leadership, a bias for execution, and the ability to build and lead a team that operationalizes data quality at scale—enabling trusted, actionable data across the enterprise.

 

What You Will Do

  • Lead, mentor, and coach both managers and individual contributors to elevate team performance and promote a culture of continuous improvement across the Enterprise Data & Analytics organization.
  • Translate stakeholder objectives into actionable team plans, providing clear direction and prioritization to enable strategic support.
  • Evaluate future technology needs by balancing innovation, industry trends, and business requirements.
  • Oversee delivery execution and manage prioritization of incoming demands.
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with Technology and Data & Analytics teams.
  • Ensure data quality policies and standards align with enterprise architecture and data governance frameworks.
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and engagement scope in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Select, implement, and manage Data Quality tools and solutions that meet business needs.
  • Support Data Governance leadership in executing enterprise-wide data initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain data quality metrics, targets, and performance tracking.
  • Manage team budgets and actively participate in financial planning and reviews.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends and technologies in data analytics and business intelligence to guide strategy and drive innovation.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. 
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

 

Skills You Will Need

Data Quality Management: Deep understanding of data profiling, validation, root-cause analysis, and remediation techniques.

Data Governance & Architecture: Familiarity with enterprise data governance frameworks and alignment with enterprise architecture.

Analytics & Metrics: Ability to develop and monitor data quality KPIs and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to lead through influence and collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

People Development: Strong mentoring, coaching, and talent development capabilities.

Strategic Planning: Skill in translating high-level goals into actionable plans and setting clear priorities.

Execution Focus: Strong bias for action, able to manage delivery timelines and prioritize competing demands.

Stakeholder Management: Communicates clearly and credibly with senior leaders, building trust and aligning expectations.

Business Storytelling: Ability to translate complex technical topics into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
