Developer Community Manager

Pinecone
San Francisco, United StatesRemotefull_timeVerifiedPosted 17 Oct 2023

About the role

If you’re excited about:

  • Helping developers succeed with new technology in a fast-moving space

  • Fostering connections between your team and the community, and between members of the community

  • Driving excellence in program execution – the most interesting newsletters, liveliest events, most helpful forums – from the beginning

  • Working with people who value clarity, creativity, passion, initiative, and thoughtfulness.

Then this is your opportunity to join an early-stage, fast-growing, and well-funded startup to shape the course of an entire industry.

Pinecone is pioneering search and database technology that's revolutionizing how developers build search systems. Our managed vector database provides customers with easy-to-use capabilities that until now have only been in the hands of a few tech giants. The demand for vector databases is growing incredibly fast, and it shows in our user base. We have a large audience of ML engineers, software engineers, data scientists, and technical architects who are eager to learn and build with our product.

As the developer community manager at Pinecone, you will connect engineers with the resources and people they need to be successful in AI. You’ll get to know our customers and developers who are not yet our customers and keep a pulse on their needs from the company and from the team. You will report to the Director of Developer Relations and work closely with the Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to deliver the events, content, and code programs that help our community thrive.

To succeed in this role, you must have experience working with developer communities and be aware of their specific needs and wants from the communities they participate in. You must be passionate about helping others and building authentic connections between humans. Our team is growing fast, and the customers are growing even faster, so you must be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced environment.

If this sounds exciting, we want to hear from you!

Pinecone is a distributed team with offices in New York, Tel Aviv, and (coming soon) San Francisco. You will be part of a world-class team from companies like Amazon, Google, Databricks, and Splunk. The company emerged from stealth in January 2021 with $10M in seed funding — led by the same legendary investor as Snowflake —  followed by $28M Series A funding in 2022 and $100M Series B funding led by Andreessen Horowitz in 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Scope, plan, and drive concurrent programs for developers, including regular developer events in person and online

  • Maintain relationships with our key external contributors– Pinecone Pioneers– and helping them shine a light on the exciting work they do through blogs, talks, and social promotion

  • Cultivate relationships with new joiners to our community and developers we should know

  • Collect and use qualitative (eg, user research) and quantitative (eg, analytics) data to evaluate program success and utility - don’t just repeat a playbook, think creatively about what we can do for our developers

  • Collaborate closely with marketing and developer advocates to deliver timely, relevant content to our developer users

  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to help address the community’s needs from the product

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience managing in-person developer community programs like meetups and conferences

  • Experience running online communities such as forums, Slack and Discord channels, and discussion groups

  • Strong developer empathy; a good instinct for the content and materials that developers want from the company and the community

  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to set the tone in online spaces through your written communication

  • Curiosity, thoroughness, organization, enthusiasm, and self-direction.

  • Preferred but not required:

    • Sufficient technical experience to create idiomatic short-form content (e.g. social media posts) for developers
