About the role

About the Company

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.

A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.

Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

As the Autonomy Software Release Manager, you will spearhead the creation and leadership of a new team responsible for delivering reliable, high-quality software releases for autonomy applications. This is a “working manager” position where you’ll initially act as an individual contributor while building a team of talented engineers. Your role will be critical in establishing robust delivery pipelines, ensuring code quality, and streamlining development workflows to empower innovation and maintain safety and reliability.

What you'll be doing:

  • Team Building: Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team of engineers focused on software release management, delivery pipelines, and deployment infrastructure.
  • Process Ownership: Design and implement version control strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and release management processes to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Individual Contributions: Contribute directly to infrastructure setup, pipeline development, and integration support until the team is established
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with integration, deployment, simulation, and development teams to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Code Quality Enforcement: Define and enforce rigorous code quality standards through automated testing and reviews
  • Technical Leadership: Lead initiatives to streamline workflows, improve developer productivity, and enhance software reliability.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering or release management, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Proficiency in designing and managing CI/CD pipelines and release management processes
  • Expertise in version control systems, including branching and merging strategies (e.g., Git)
  • Strong understanding of code quality standards, automated testing, and metrics
  • Experience with infrastructure tools and frameworks for deployment and integration.
  • Familiarity with robotic or autonomous systems software is a plus

Bonus Points!

  • Experience in Agile development methodologies
  • Knowledge of safety-critical software development and release standards
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar containerization and orchestration tools.
  • Background in supporting large-scale software systems integration and deployment
  • Hands-on experience with simulation environments or virtual testing for autonomous systems
