SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for directing and overseeing the Tribe’s safety, security, and emergency response operations and initiatives for the Tribe. In addition, we strive to deliver our Five Star Experience to Guests and fellow Team Members. - Provide outstanding customer service to guests and all other employees by exceeding our mission statement.
- Lead by example and carry out our Five Star Experience to Guests and all Team Members by fulfilling our Mission Statement, Service Promise and following department service standards. - Continually coach and support Team Members to ensure they have the skills, tools and resources to successfully complete their jobs, including the delivering of the Five Star Experience expectations.
- Plan, manage, supervise, and evaluate Public Safety Departmental Operations.
- Responsibilities include grant writing, research, preparation of grant applications/proposals, administration of grant awards, and enforce compliance with federal regulations.
- Lead developing an Inter-Tribal law enforcement agency along with creating future and ongoing joint law enforcement agreements with all Local, State and Federal agencies.
- Develop policies and procedures for the Department mandated by Tribal law, to ensure efficient operations of the department, and to implement directive from the Tribal Chairman or the Tribal Chief Administrative Officer.
- Plan and implement a Public Safety program for all Tribal land in order to better carry out Tribal law
- Review Department performance and effectiveness, formulate programs or policies to alleviate deficiencies.
- Ensure that tribal laws and ordinances are enforced and that public peace and safety is maintained.
- Review evidence, witnesses, and suspects in criminal cases to correlate all aspects, and to assess for trends, similarities, or for associations with other cases.
- Direct the development and maintenance of systems, records, and legal documents that provide for the proper evaluation, control, and documentation of the Public Safety Department operations.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports to Tribal Chairman and the BDC regarding the Department’s activities, and prepare a variety of other reports as appropriate.
- Direct and organize duties and responsibilities of Tribal Emergency Response on Tribal Land.
- Work with EPA office and HAZMAT for the proper disposal of toxic waste removal.
- Analyze and recommend improvements to equipment and facilities, as needed.
- Coordinate with County, State and Federal law enforcement agencies as appropriate where activities of the Public Safety Department are involved.
- Coordinate activities with supervisors and other departments, exchange information with officers in other law enforcement agencies, the District Attorney’s Office, Circuit Court, and other government agencies. Obtain advice from the legal department, Court Administrator, and Municipal Prosecutor’s Office regarding cases, policies and procedures.
