Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. ​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

​​​​We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who will primary be working on the SQL Azure Backup Restore Service. You will work to bring more capabilities and to enhance multiple features within the SQL Azure Backup Restore Service, define and design next generation of technologies to build a scalable, reliable and efficient backup restore solution.

Responsibilities

• ​​​​In this role, you will be an individual contributor, working with a team of engineers to design, implement and maintain features in the Backup Restore Service that will benefit millions of databases on Azure SQL.
• As a senior engineer, you will have the opportunity to define and design next generation of SQL Azure Backup Restore Service, and opportunity to develop system design skills.
• You will have the opportunity to grow as a technical leader, senior engineer, and a mentor to other engineers in the team.
• Collaboration with stakeholders, disciplines and architects to deliver timely products to our partners and customers.
• Develop and maintain high-quality code, documentation and specifications.
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Demonstrate and develop effective communication and group collaboration skills​.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

• ​​​​Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• Experience in C, C++, troubleshooting and debugging multithreaded and high-performance backend systems.​

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• ​​​​Master's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience is a plus.
• Insight in relational database internals in one or more areas such as Backup/Restore, logging and recovery, transaction management etc.​ ​

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan are
