PURPOSE

The Assistant Director is a member of the central leadership team for Residence Life and assists in establishing and implementing goals and strategies for the residential experience while remaining true to the vision of Islander Housing. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing, assisting with, and supporting opportunities for residential student development and success through assessment and evaluation, leadership development, and engagement within Islander Housing.

The residential experience is being designed to intentionally contribute to student learning, growth, and success. As a live-in staff member of Islander Housing, the Assistant Director position requires frequent and meaningful interactions with students in a variety of settings. The Assistant Director assists with the administration of various aspects of the residential experience.

The Assistant Director will work with the Director on assessment and evaluation, Move-In processes and programs, and will serve in an on-call rotation split between two properties. The Assistant Director may be responsible for supervising staff or communities as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management- 45%

• Responsible for assessment activities for the Department and for producing monthly, semester/term, and annual reports and statistics.

• Participates in strategic planning based on assessment data and department goals.

• Develop reports, analyses, and surveys as requested by the Director.

• Provides supervision and guidance to a team or departmental sub-unit(s) as needed.

• Maintains visibility throughout and engages informally with residents about academic, personal, and community successes, issues, and concerns.

• Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives.

• Assists with student retention initiatives.

• Demonstrate care, compassion, and follow through with student mental health concerns.

• Acts as a referral agent to assist students in connecting to campus and community resources to enhance their collegiate experience and promote success.

• Provides leadership for department along with and in absence of the Associate Director and/or Director.

• Respond to student and parent concerns; refer difficult cases to appropriate personnel.

• Assist the Director in planning and budgeting for the department.
