Position Summary:

The Data Privacy and Compliance Manager assists with managing day-to-day compliance and data privacy matters as well as investigating any alleged violations of law or policy. The Data Privacy and Compliance Manager provides confidential, technical, and professional level support to the CT State organizational compliance framework.

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the CT State Compliance Officer, the Data Privacy and Compliance Manager is responsible for effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Investigates complex compliance issues and complaints and makes recommendations to the Compliance Officer.
  • Completes research, fact-finding analyses, and written reports.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements as well as CSCU policies.
  • Conducts detailed compliance audits and assessments to identify potential compliance risks.
  • Provides training and support to employees on compliance-related matters, especially as they relate to data privacy.
  • Manages institution incident responses in cases of data breaches.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) to identify and assess privacy risks associated with new projects, systems, or processes.
  • Manages data breach incidents, including notification procedures, data recovery, and reporting to relevant authorities.
  • Manages requests from data subjects to access, rectify, or erase their personal data.
  • Monitors and audits data processing activities to ensure compliance with privacy policies and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 7 years of experience with investigations, data privacy protection and/or other related areas.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Experience in developing, drafting and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated active listening skills, problem solving skills, and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality.
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.).
