JOB SUMMARY:
The Sr Service Technician applies electrical and/or mechanical expertise to troubleshoot and test the systems and equipment on all rolling stock in revenue service. Provides analysis of system and equipment defects to facility Engineering and Technicians. Assists train crews in the troubleshooting of various trainset systems. Provides formal training to internal customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Rides trains to determine en route performance of control/mechanical systems and to assess dynamic state of system repairs.
• Assists train crews in preventing delays or terminations following system faults using their Qualified Maintenance Personnel (“QMP”) certification and the Abnormal and Emergency Quick Reference Handbook.
• Operates the on-board diagnostic monitoring system of the fleets rolling stock.
• Diagnoses cause of electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems malfunction or failure of the control equipment and its components in the trainsets using knowledge of trainsets, technical manuals and PTE.
• Troubleshoots malfunctions related to the equipment and proposes solutions or modifications to avoid future failures by working with the Maintenance Engineering Department.
• Analyzes and interprets data developed during the periodic testing and daily maintenance download reviews.
• Documents malfunctions and performs analyses for management on equipment reliability and service issues.
• Trains T&E crews in formal classroom and informal hands-on system training for rolling stock equipment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent combination of training, education, and relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• 6 years of relevant High Speed Rail Operations experience
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of high voltage electrical, locomotive and coach car systems.
• Knowledge of FRA, FDA, and AAR Standards and Regulations.
• QMP Tier II and Tier III qualified.
• NORAC qualified (or so qualified within 90 days).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Ability to troubleshoot, read schematics, interpret technical documents and instructions.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to train others in formal classroom environments as well as onboard equipment
• Must possess effective writing and interpersonal skills.
• Must possess problem solving and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic and/or mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems using computerized diagnostic equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Travel: 3090%, with a significant amount riding HSR equipment.
• Will require both working inside and outside where temperatures may be below 32 degrees F or may exceed 90 degrees F.
• Will require working alone and occasionally in either wet or dry conditions.
• Will frequently be working on ladders, with moving vehicles, and with machinery.
• Typically bends, stoops and crouches on a regular basis to diagnose equipment/systems or adjust setting on machinery.
The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base sala
