Build the first modern logistics platform

The opportunity:

Flexport’s mission is to make global trade easy. At its core is our Transportation Management System (TMS), which orchestrates planning, execution and cargo visibility seamlessly. You have the opportunity to set a high standard for the industry by raising the bar of accurate on-time execution and to help Flexport be more efficient by automating workflow and critical tasks.

You will lead a group of talented Software Engineers, Machine Learning Scientists and Program Managers to develop one of the most critical services for Flexport: Visibility. Your team will be responsible for providing the technology to track the shipments around the world providing the most accurate and up to date information. You will partner with FlexGo (Flexport Global Operation team), Enterprise and 4PL to understand their business and priority and align it with team activities. The ideal candidate is a single threaded owner able to set the vision and roadmap for the team and own the product, engineering, and customer experience. 

You will:

• Define the vision and roadmap for Visibility service
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of large-scale software systems
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to software engineers
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to define and deliver software solutions that meet business objectives
• Ensure software development processes are followed, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends and apply them to software development efforts where appropriate

You should have:

• Bachelor's and / or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 10+ years of experience in software development
• 6 years managing high performance software development team, including 3 years experience managing managers
• Proven experience leading high productive engineering team to deliver the results
• Track records to work with business partners to align priority, strategies and align the team to deliver the results
• Ability to effectively engage at all levels from direct reports to c-suite
• Ability to see through ambiguous situations and convert them into simple insight
• Have the builder mentality, be able to move fast and take whatever needed to get things done
• Supply chain and operation experience is a plus

Our stack:

Our continuous releases are integrated with Buildkite and Github. On the frontend, we create our views with React, manage the flow of data with GraphQL/Relay, and test our application with Jest. On the backend, we’re in the process of decoupling our monolithic Rails app. We have introduced a few network isolated services using other languages, such as Java and Clojure. Our data is persisted in Postgres and Redis. Our stack is hosted on AWS using Docker.
