Education
- If not a graduate from an accredited program for medical assitants then two (2) years experience in a medical office setting.
Experience / Qualifications
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
- Medical Assistance Certification preferred.
- Must have experience in medical assisting.
- Knowledge of healthcare software preferred.
- Experience as a medical assistant, patient care skills, examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Must possess computer skills and customer service skills.
- Detail oriented and self motivated.
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant is a multi skilled specialist who assists the physician in all aspects of the medical practice under the direct responsibility of the physician. Responsibilities include assisting with the patient care management, executes administrative and clinical procedures and performs supervisory functions pertaining to position. Competency requires that the medical assistant adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize and respond to emergencies and demonstrates professional characteristics.
- Obtains and documents vital signs and lab work.
- Prepare patients for examination
- Enter lab and imaging orders under the supervision of a clinical provider.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
- Labels and completes lab requisitions, including ICD and CPT coding. Sends specimens to lab per patient’s insurance plan.
- Update patient medical records.
- Answer phones.
- Schedule appointments
- Removing sutures and dressings (as it applies per specialty)
- Chaperone clinician during patient visits as needed.
- Completes timely and accurate documentation of patient visits.
- Performs reconcilliation of labs and orders and independently follows-up on overdue pending results.
- Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
- Process prescriptions and orders as directed by provider.
- Stocks rooms and reorders supplies. Ensures supplies are received as ordered. Follows up on incomplete or inaccurate orders.
- Sterilizes instruments in accordance with OSHA requirements.
- Performs patient education as directed and within your scope of practice. Communicates under clinical supervision, medical results to patients. Ensures all outside records are incorporated into chart or HER Epic
- Performs other duties as assigned.
