JOB PURPOSE
This position in Mid Corporate Banking Underwriting and Portfolio Management will support both the underwriting of new transactions and managing the portfolio of existing loans for the CIBC Bank USA Mid Corporate Banking team. The Mid Corporate Banking strategy focuses on credit and capital markets solutions for publicly traded and large private companies. This role will have direct interaction with the entire Mid Corporate Banking team and the bank’s internal partners to deliver credit solutions to clients while minimizing losses and maintaining compliance with credit policies.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Underwriting and Originations Support
- Support the new transaction underwriting process with involvement in the end-to-end deal process from originations to closing
- Actively participate in origination process (pre-underwriting) and support prospecting activities
- Participate in meetings with prospective clients and/or agent banks during underwriting to ensure full understanding of client business, trends, risks and financials.
- Prepare financial models, perform due diligence on industry and company performance and analyze trends; summarize and draw conclusions from the analysis
- Timely and accurate delivery of underwriting products (pre-screen, Loan Presentations)
- Provide support to relationship managers in cross-sell opportunities and initiatives
- Provide support in the loan closing process
- Support business development activities through preparation of marketing materials, prospect analysis and industry and client research
- Work closely with the team (Group Head, Portfolio Managers and Relationship Managers) and actively participate in moving new business and modification requests through the credit approval process and discussion with Credit Risk.
- Mentor and train rotational analysts
Portfolio Management
- Actively monitor, manage and mitigate portfolio risk related to assigned portfolio by monitoring clients' operating performance and financial condition.
- Ensure accuracy of risk ratings and timeliness of risk rating upgrades/downgrades and approvals. Research industry and economic analysis to inform risk ratings
- Ensure adherence to CIBC corporate credit policy, commercial banking credit procedures and guidance from auditors and regulators
- Minimize and clear document exceptions
- Timely and accurate completion of periodic reviews (annual, quarterly, etc.) for assigned portfolio
- Support the credit review processes (CAMP, LL, etc..) for assigned portfolio
- Summarize key updates for internal and/or external discussion and advise on credit actions (structure, waivers, modifications etc.)
Qualifications
- Min. 1-2 years of experience in banking or finance
- Completion of formal Credit Training (credit training may be provided for the right candidate)
- College Degree / Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in the understanding of commercial loan transactions including the credit approval process, credit risk identification and loan structuring.
- Ability to work within deadlines and outside of regularly scheduled hours as needed
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products with advanced knowledge financial analysis and modeling.
