Marketing Statement

As a member of the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) leadership team, the Elevator Safety Division Manager provides the vision and strategic oversight necessary to successfully direct and manage the OSFM Elevator Safety Division.  This position manages a team comprised of supervisors and Elevator Inspectors who conduct statewide re-inspections of operations, installations, construction, maintenance, and repair of elevators throughout their designated field area.  The candidate must possess high-level leadership and decision-making experience in addition to the ability to interact with subordinate staff and the public in a positive and professional manner.  As the Elevator Safety Division Manager and employee of the State of Illinois, the selected candidate will have access to state healthcare, benefits, and a pension plan.  We invite all qualified applicants to apply to join the OSFM team.

Job Duties

  • Manages the Division of Elevator Safety, directing a statewide program of inspections to monitor the safety of elevators, lifts, escalators, and moving walks located within the State of Illinois.
  • Provides technical guidance concerning the installation, construction, operation and repair of elevators, lifts, escalators, and moving walks to ensure compliance with the standards established by the Elevator Safety and Regulations Act.
  • Establishes and maintains effective liaison with the legislature, other state agencies and the general public in interpreting the Office of the State Fire Marshal's Statewide Elevator Safety and Certification Program policies and programs.
  • Coordinates technical studies for the agency relating to Statewide Elevator Safety and Certification Program.
  • Serves as a full line supervisor.
  • Directs, plans, and implements the Elevator Safety Division budget for effective and efficient utilization of program resources, fiscal management, personnel management, budget, and program development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
