Vence, a subsidiary of our Company Animal Health is a leading virtual fencing company with an exceptional brand and reputation in the ranching and grazing management segments.  

We are searching for an experienced grazing land manager and rangeland ecologist to join our expanding team of professionals at Vence, a subsidiary of our Company Animal Health. Virtual fencing continues to gain acceptance in the rangeland community as a valuable, flexible tool to assist in the achievement of sustainable ranch outcomes. Our vision is to be a leader working alongside ranchers, governmental, non-governmental and private sector partners in creating sustainable land use outcomes and ensuring that the ranching tradition will be here for future generations. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for guiding our university and extension outreach, liaising with our partners at USDA-NRCS, the U.S Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service and other governmental agencies. In addition, this role will coordinate with and assist Non-Governmental Agencies committed to supporting ranching as a critical component in conservation with their virtual fencing projects. This role will also work closely with Vence team members to provide internal and external education and training. The position will work with our R&D teams to provide input into future product enhancements.

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as Vence’s Scientific and Technical Support Lead to the Rangeland Community through participation in industry organizations, symposia, and direct customer activities. These would include but are not limited to the Society for Range Management, U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, NCBA, state Cattlemen’s Associations, NatGLC and state affiliates, etc.

  • Conduct workshops with customers to understand their current operations and recommend workflow changes to utilize the Vence system to achieve their ranch and land management goals.

  • Conduct training workshops with key governmental agencies and their staff to educate on the value and use of virtual fencing as a land management tool.

  • Assist key stakeholders and customers in developing plans and proposals to secure funding for virtual fencing on their properties.

  • Serve as a resource to the wider Rancher Success and Support teams. Work cross-functionally with product management and engineering to develop refine and improve Vence capabilities.

  • Work cross-functionally with product management and engineering to develop refine customer and internal training materials.

  • Work cross-functionally with sales, operations, and product management to develop and develop and enhance customer engagement throughout out sales and execution flows.

  • Provide technical support as we expand globally and serve other cattle markets with a commitment to conservation and production improvement.

This is a remote based position with preference for candidates to be located in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Background & Education:

PhD in Range Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent field. Experience working across private and public agencies to achieve land management outcomes.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • 5+ years of experience working, including time with graduate work, with rangeland ecosystems and owners to create profitable and sustainable outcomes.

  • Experience collaborating with Governmental and Non-Governmental Agencies to achieve sustainable land outcomes.

  • Self-motivated, organized and an effective communicator, flexible to changing business needs and priorities.

  • Ability to independently schedule and complete initiatives in line with team objectives.

  • Excellent English communication, documentation skills, and the ability to work with geographically disperse teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to network and build relationships within the Rangeland and Ranching Community including governmental agencies, research institutions, and entities involved in conservation, land stewardship and cattle production.

  • Experience working with private landowners and governmental agencies in developing grazing management plans.

  • Experience developing Grant Proposals and securing alternate funding for projects.
