We are looking to add a Senior or Staff Mechanical Engineer to our hardware & research team. In this role you will design, develop, and improve proprietary hardware for Synthego’s CRISPR guide RNA manufacturing business.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, detail-oriented, and creative engineer who is interested in working with a talented team to push the boundaries of oligonucleotide manufacturing.

What You'll Do:
- Design, prototype, and test mechanical systems involving multi-domain engineering in motion, fluidics, heat transfer, optical and electromechanical systems.
- Independently drive experiments according to sound engineering principles, business standards and procedures, and program requirements. Build testing set-ups, conduct experiments, analyze data, interpret results, and suggest follow-up experiments.
- Communicate designs and project updates through design reviews and presentations to executives, product stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Work cross-functionally to solve problems at the intersection of hardware and software engineering, chemistry, and data science.
- Maintain detailed and organized documentation including design history files, qualification records, and engineering drawings.
About You:
- For Senior leveling: B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 3-6 years of professional experience, or PhD with relevant project experience.
- For Staff leveling: B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6-9 years of professional experience, or PhD with relevant project experience.
- Demonstrated track record of building mechanical systems involving fluid handling
- High proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
- Basic programming proficiency with Python or similar
- Strong knowledge of design-for-manufacturing and GD&T principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Able to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
Nice to Haves:
- Demonstrated track record of building capital equipment including instruments and/or industrial automation systems in the life sciences or a similar industry (semiconductor, petrochemical, etc)
- Experience with PLC programming
- Experience with chemical reactor design and scaling analysis
- Experience with high pressure equipment, oligonucleotide synthesis, and/or analytical instrumentation
- Knowledge of chemistry and/or previous experience working with oligonucleotides (DNA or RNA)
- Proficiency with data analysis using Pandas/Scipy/Matplotlib or similar
- Machine shop experience
