Position Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant General Counsel to join our team! Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal counsel and guidance with a focus on litigation, corporate governance, transactional and labor-related matters to support the firm’s business objectives. The AGC will collaborate closely with the executive team and various departments across the firm to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, mitigate risks, and resolve disputes effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the General Counsel, the AGC will:
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance on a wide range of matters including corporate governance, contracts, employment and labor law, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance
- Conduct legal research and analysis to stay abreast of evolving corporate laws, regulations, and legal precedents, and proactively advise the General Counsel on potential implications
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
- Collaborate with the executive team, senior management, department heads, and external legal counsel, to address legal issues and facilitate business objectives
- Provide legal support and guidance to HR on employment matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, terminations, training and accommodations
- Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and implement proactive strategies and initiatives to enhance employee relations, promote a positive work environment, and minimize legal exposure
- Facilitate the development and implementation of company-wide policies and practices that align with legal requirements and best practices
- Assist in the management of outside counsel relationships and legal expenses
- Remain current on industry trends, legislative developments, and emerging issues across the corporate and legal landscape to anticipate potential impacts on the organization and provide proactive advice and solutions
- Represent the company in administrative proceedings, arbitration, and litigation, working closely with external legal counsel when necessary
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar association.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department with a strong generalist skill set across multiple practice areas.
- Thorough understanding of legal principles and regulations applicable to law firms and the legal industry.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess complex legal issues, conduct thorough legal research, and provide practical solutions and recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate legal concepts and advice to non-legal stakeholders and present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
