Purpose

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is looking for a Communications Specialist, focusing on graphic design and social media management, that will help our group strategically communicate with stakeholders at all levels and assess the impact of these efforts to inform decision making. This is a part-time student position for fall 2025. The desired start date is the week before classes begin to start training and onboarding.

Hybrid work arrangements can be discussed based on students' class schedules. 

This is an exciting position that includes a combination of skill development and communications strategy.

Responsibilities

General

  • Serve on the Communications team to create and share our work with a variety of campus stakeholders.
  • Work within the context of the academic ecosystem which includes, but is not limited to: Academic Affairs, Provost’s Office and associated units, Provost’s Teaching Fellows, College and School administrators, instructors including graduate students and faculty, staff, and students.
  • Adherence to productive work standards such as effective communication, project coordination and management, honesty and accountability, willingness to evolve and learn new skills.
  • Operational excellence to ensure effective team practices such as file storage, digital correspondence, follow through and attention to detail.

Asset Creation

  • Create and monitor branding standards in alignment with the Provost’s Office and University Communications
  • Graphic Design

Marketing/Advertising

  • Social media strategy and management to maximize audience engagement
  • Working with the team on a cohesive, comprehensive branding strategy

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently within a cohesive team
  • Evidence of learning new technical skills and applying new knowledge to solve organizational challenges
  • Soliciting user feedback
  • Experience with: Content creation tools such as Canva and Adobe (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Image editing, Royalty-free image acquisition, Managing multiple social media channels such as Instagram and LinkedIn, Tools or processes to manage social media operations such as scheduling posts and Copy writing and editing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Available portfolio of work samples
  • Demonstrated experience creating a communications plan and executing multi-channel campaigns
  • Experience conducting audience needs analysis and the use of personas to tailor content
  • Varied background in advertising, marketing, and communications employing a variety of skills (digital photography, video capture and editing, making use of analytics to inform future activities, website design and management)
  • May be a good fit for those majoring in Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising or Design
  • Eligible for work study

Salary Range

$18/hour

Working Conditions

  • Work to be completed on a hybrid basis

  • 12 hours per week on average

  • Offers for future semesters will be assessed on a case by case basis

  • Eligible for Work Study
