Job Description Summary

The Assistant Professor of Oral Health Workforce Development is a part-time faculty position for The Center for Rural Oral Health Research and Community Engagement within the Division of Population Oral Health at the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. The faculty member supports educational and workforce development initiatives designed to strengthen the oral health workforce and improve access to care in underserved communities through teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, and program administration.

Working collaboratively with faculty and program leadership, the Assistant Professor contributes to the Community Dental Health Coordinator (CDHC) Program and the development and implementation of the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program. The faculty member also provides instruction within Division of Population Oral Health courses and participates in program evaluation, academic service, and workforce development activities consistent with the mission of the College and Center.

The Assistant Professor of Oral Health Workforce Development is a part-time faculty position for The Center for Rural Oral Health Research and Community Engagement within the Division of Population Oral Health at the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. The faculty member supports educational and workforce development initiatives designed to strengthen the oral health workforce and improve access to care in underserved communities through teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, and program administration.

Job Description

  • 40% Academic Program Leadership & Development
    • Support the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Community Dental Health Coordinator (CDHC) Program.
    • Assist with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program.
    • Collaborate with faculty and program leadership on curriculum design, course development, program assessment, and accreditation-related activities.
    • Participate in strategic planning and workforce development initiatives that advance educational opportunities within the oral health professions.
    • Support program recruitment, retention, and student success efforts.
  • 30% Teaching & Curriculum Development
    • Provide instruction within the CDHC Program and other educational offerings as assigned.
    • Contribute lectures, instructional content, and learning activities to Division of Population Oral Health courses based on areas of expertise.
    • Develop and maintain course materials, assessments, and educational resources.
    • Evaluate learner performance and provide timely feedback.
    • Participate in curriculum review and revision efforts to ensure educational quality and relevance.
  • 20% Student Advising & Mentorship
    • Provide academic and professional advising to students and program participants.
    • Support learner engagement, retention, and successful completion of educational programs.
    • Mentor students in professional development and career exploration within oral health and public health settings.
    • Serve as a resource for students seeking guidance related to educational and workforce opportunities.
  • 10% Service, Outreach & Scholarship
    • Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities.
    • Collaborate with community, academic, and professional partners to support workforce development initiatives.
    • Contribute to scholarly, educational, and grant-related activities consistent with faculty responsibilities and assigned effort.
