As a Senior In-Building RF Design Engineer will lead the RF design, optimization, and technical support of in-building wireless solutions, including iDAS (OCN), Private Cellular (PCN), CBRS, and Neutral Host deployments. This role is responsible for RF design deliverables across the full project lifecycle, from requirements gathering and site walks through design approval, deployment support, acceptance, and optimization.
This position is focused exclusively on in-building environments such as enterprise, venue, campus, healthcare, hospitality, public sector, and other complex indoor facilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong in-building RF design experience, hands-on expertise with iBwave Design, and the ability to develop practical, field-ready RF designs that meet carrier, customer, and venue requirements.
This role will work closely with AT&T HQ RAN, AT&T Local Market teams, and external carrier partners, including Verizon and T-Mobile, where Neutral Host coordination, design review, and approval are required.
What you'll do
- Lead RF design for in-building wireless solutions including iDAS (OCN), Private Cellular (PCN), CBRS, and Neutral Host deployments.
- Develop complete RF design packages including coverage predictions, link budgets, antenna layouts, sectorization strategies, and capacity planning.
- Create and review Bills of Material (BOM) and equipment placement plans for headend equipment, radios, remotes, antennas, POIs, splitters, couplers, fiber, coax, and supporting infrastructure.
- Produce and maintain engineering design documentation including floor plans, antenna placement drawings, cable routing, antenna heights, azimuths, fiber routing, and power plans.
- Conduct site walks and engineering assessments and translate field conditions into final RF design recommendations.
- Work with AT&T HQ RAN and AT&T Local Market teams to support RF design review, technical alignment, and design approval.
- Coordinate with external carrier partners, including Verizon and T-Mobile, to support Neutral Host design review and approval where applicable.
- Support construction, deployment, and integration teams with RF guidance, troubleshooting, redlines, and as-built updates.
- Perform post-install optimization and acceptance support using walk test data, field measurements, and KPI analysis.
- Analyze LTE and 5G NR RF performance and recommend design or optimization changes based on metrics such as RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, CQI, throughput, PRB utilization, PCI planning, and interference conditions.
- Ensure designs meet applicable carrier requirements, customer requirements, venue constraints, and safety and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, OEMs, system integrators, construction teams, venue IT/facilities teams, AT&T engineering teams, and external carrier partners to support successful project delivery.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 to 10 years of RF engineering experience in in-building wireless, DAS, private cellular, small cell, or related RF design environments.
- Strong understanding of LTE and 5G NR RF fundamentals including propagation, link budgets, interference, mobility, and capacity planning.
- Required hands-on experience with iBwave Design for in-building RF design and DAS modeling.
- Experience developing complete RF design packages and translating requirements into field-deployable designs.
- Strong understanding of indoor wireless
