About the Role

The Behavioral Health Case Manager provides clinical oversight to behavioral health disability and leave of absence claims. They recommend clear duration of psychiatric conditions and limitations impacting disability. Assists the case manager in determining claim liability and proactive return to work plans. As the subject matter expert on these files, the BHCCM reviews claim decisions and is consulted on a variety of case management initiatives including medical disability durations, return to work obstacles and/or return to work planning and clinical guidance/education to internal stakeholders. The BHCCM recognizes the importance of work, its financial, social, and psychological implications, and views return to work as an essential goal for employees.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing the impact of clinical conditions on functional limitations by reviewing employee reports and medical evidence. Evaluate and analyze the reports to determine the effect of clinical conditions on functional limitations.
  • Applying current clinical knowledge regarding diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and functional impairment in context of essential work functions.
  • Participating in early assessment of clinical symptoms, functional impairment, psychosocial dynamics, and return-to-work (RTW) opportunities.
  • Utilizing clinical expertise to assess recovery time. Determining Medical Disability Guidelines, diagnosis, illness severity, treatment plans, and functional impairment's impact on job demands.
  • Ensuring quality standards for clinical case management and consultations are consistently met.
  • Upholding commitment to ethical business practices. Following through on commitments by continuously striving to provide quality products and customer service.
  • Leveraging your clinical expertise by educating and guiding disability case managers and other internal/external stakeholders throughout the claim process.
  • Serving as primary resource on team managing behavioral health disability and accommodation cases.
  • Applying your clinical knowledge to ascertain probable optimal recovery duration based on Medical Disability Guidelines, diagnosis, severity of illness, co-morbid conditions, treatment plans, and functional impairment implications on occupational requirements.
  • Ensuring quality standards for clinical case management/consultation are consistently met.
  • Providing support to peers as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience as Psychiatric RN, Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychologist.
  • LPC, LCSW, LMSW, or RN with specialty in behavioral health, with a valid current state license (unrestricted).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical and clinical documentation related to functional impairment.
  • Experience in the mentoring and advising of claim managers on effective behavioral health clinical case management strategy.
  • Case management experience in behavioral health and disability/absence management.
  • Work experience with the Medical Disability Guidelines or Utilization Review Treatment Guidelines.
  • Have certification in related field, e.g., CDMS, ADMS or CCM.
