The Underwriting Assistant provides high-level support to a team of underwriters and plays a key role in facilitating end-to-end underwriting operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of new and renewal business, endorsements, and audits. The role requires excellent attention to detail, a high level of organization, and the ability to support the underwriting workflow within a demanding environment. This person is motivated by making a difference, collaborative, and client focused. Success in this position comes from being proactive, collaborative, and committing to building strong internal and external relationships.
The Underwriting Assistant position will work fully remote from the EST or CST time zones.
Responsibilities:
- Supports several underwriters with the management of their joint accounts.
- Effectively Communicates with brokers/agents on behalf of their underwriter partner to collect missing information and respond to service inquiries.
- Prepares the underwriting file and ensures accuracy and completeness of documentation prior to underwriter review.
- Reviews correspondence, applications, and loss reports for critical information, updates the underwriting file and advises the underwriter of changes or missing information.
- Refers risk-involved matters that are beyond assigned authority to underwriter for evaluation.
- Perform data entry in multiple systems.
- Prepares quote proposal and gathers associated documentation to send to our clients.
- Invoices policies and endorsements to our clients.
- Identify process inefficiencies and support continuous improvement efforts in workflow and service delivery.
- Mentor and support junior underwriting assistants or coordinators on the team.
- Stay current on internal underwriting guidelines, carrier requirements, and program-specific procedures.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with brokers/agents and other external partners to promote open communication and exceptional service
- Collaborate with other internal departments – such as claims, accounting, and marketing
- Serve as a liaison between underwriters, brokers/agents, and internal teams to resolve issues quickly and accurately
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve broker/agent satisfaction by anticipating needs and providing timely updates
- Participating in team meetings and training sessions to share insights, contribute to problem solving, and foster growth
Requirements:
- Associates, bachelor’s degree, or Equivalent experience preferred.
- Insurance background required.
- Strong customer service skills and client focused.
- Strong desk and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Poised under pressure.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast past environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team and uphold high service standards.
- Finding goals as part of a team to be rewarding.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The base pay range for the Underwriting Assistant will be $50,000-$65,000. Discretionary incentive compensation may be awarded.
