POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for providing pharmacy services which include, but are not limited to, preparing and distributing pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control and, providing customer service, maintaining pharmacy records, and operating and monitoring pharmacy automated technology systems,. The Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and/or the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to ensure delivery of high quality patient focused pharmacy services.
The Outpatient/Retail Pharmacy Technician I (only) performs data entry tasks such as prescription transcription and entry, resolution of insurance claim issues, and contacts providers as appropriate for the pharmacist.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tasks
- Performs data entry tasks such as, prescription transcription and entry, resolve third party insurance claim issues, contacts providers as appropriate for the pharmacist while maintaining customer / patient confidentiality.
- Prepares prescription orders in a timely manner; retrieves, counts, measures and prepares medications, solutions, ointments, and other compounds as directed. Ensures all work is checked by a pharmacist.
- Supports the service needs of the pharmacist relative to pharmacy services and maximized patient care outcomes such as, ensuring the prescription is dispensed to the correct patient at the point-of-sale in a professional and courteous manner
Patient Care and Safety
- Communicates to pharmacists and/or pharmacy technician supervisor on malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions
Administrative
- Attends and participates in hospital and other management training and development workshops.
- Must have/maintain national technician certification through PTCB or exCPT
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED
- Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy by the hire date (Pharmacy Interns are not required to hold CPhT certification)
- Must also have national certification from Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT), or within 6 months from start date
- Pharmacy students who have completed 2 years of education in an approved college/school of pharmacy are eligible for pharmacy internship, and may be waived for the required experience
- 6 months - 1 year of work experience preferred
