The Mail Clerk operates various mail machines, sorts incoming mail and distributes/picks up mail in satellite mailrooms and doctors' offices throughout the campus. Receives monitors and distributes all incoming and outgoing correspondence including USPS, UPS and FedEx packages. Maintains all databases and lists of mail recipients including all hospital Associates, departments and physicians. Provides administrative assistance as needed to designated leadership staff. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview
The Mail Clerk operates various mail machines, sorts incoming mail and distributes/picks up mail in satellite mailrooms and doctors' offices throughout the campus. Receives monitors and distributes all incoming and outgoing correspondence including USPS, UPS and FedEx packages. Maintains all databases and lists of mail recipients including all hospital Associates, departments and physicians. Provides administrative assistance as needed to designated leadership staff. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
  • Sorts incoming mail from Post Office/in-house into proper department mailboxes or location boxes.
  • Makes regularly scheduled runs to satellite mailrooms and doctor’s offices throughout the campus to deliver and pick up routine, inter-office, and US mail.
  • Provides professional administrative support to designated leadership staff.
  • Maintains good records and databases on changing office staffs and physicians for the purpose of accurate and timely mail delivery.
  • Operates and maintains various mail machines.
  • Performs other job functions.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience Requirements
  • No prior work experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with Associates, management and physicians.
  • Knowledge of mailroom sorting operations as would be learned by on-the-job training.
  • Displays excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Sensitive to prompt delivery of all office correspondence and parcels.
  • Able to work with and meet strict time deadlines.
  • Ability to recognize suspicious packages and alert appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own work flow.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills with an emphasis on MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of all major express shipping methods and vendor procedures.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with co-workers.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands
  • Exposure to loud noise. Personal protective ear wear must be worn in areas deemed necessary at all times.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Must be able to lift and transport packages weighing approximately 30 lbs.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
