Field Technician IV (LMR - Land Mobile Radio Support)
Position Summary
The Field Tech IV works on the Network Communications Field Service team with the primary responsibility of Network Operations Management for Xcel Energy communications networks. This Senior Technician oversees the Junior Field team members. Develops and leverages a thorough understanding of and experience in enterprise networks and infrastructure to increase efficiencies and ensure consistency. Coaches, trains, and motivates all team members to meet and exceed all departmental goals and K.P.I.'s (Key Performance Indicators).
Essential Responsibilities
- The Field Technician IV oversees and supports the work by the Network Communications Field Service team with the primary responsibility of Network Operations Management for Xcel Energy communications network. Has excellent working knowledge of LAN/WAN network field operations and will apply that knowledge to a complex multi-vendor enterprise environment to assist with the repair and management of planned and unplanned events. Will oversee the use of field test equipment and direct calls from dispatch NOC or leadership and utilize a ticketing system to address and document escalated issues within the scope of this position.
- The Radio Installation Technician is entrusted with the essential task of servicing and maintaining critical communication systems. These systems encompass a wide range of technologies including Astro 25 systems, Conventional Radio, Telcom systems, Computer Aided Dispatch Systems & Mobile Data Terminals, Recording Systems, Subscribers, parts/accessories, fleet mapping, dispatch centers, Network Equipment, and Bi-Directional Amplifier's.
- Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25 and data infrastructure.
- Maintain, optimize, test and document complex communications systems. Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
- The Radio Installation Technician IV will partner with the customers, employees and vendor employees to meet requirements.
- The Radio Installation Technician IV will collaborate with various departments such as the Network Operations Center, Gas and Electric Dispatch Operations, Generating Facility Groups, IT Engineering, Network OT, and Enterprise Security Services, as well as third-party contractors.
- In addition to resolving daily work tickets, the Radio Installation Technician will be responsible for overseeing cases and projects with the goal of enhancing customer satisfaction, minimizing downtime, and optimizing cost-efficiency.
- Attendance at original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provided training sessions for all serviced equipment will also be encouraged.
- Install, remove, program, and troubleshoot Land Mobile Radio equipment, mobile computer equipment, mounts, cameras, and automatic vehicle location (AVL) equipment.
- Assist with site cabling, such as Cat5, Cat6, and etc.
- Work will be performed in accordance with industry standards, company requirements and where applicable, R56 grounding and site construction standards.
- Strong MS Office and Smartsheet Docs skills
- Confidence to work alone with minimal supervision and/or support only available by phone.
- Provide excellent interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, and communications skills, both orally and written.
- Oversee and support complex projects or shared areas of responsibility that may include the oversight of other technicians or project stakeholders. Will work with Technician I's, II's, III's, Supervisors, and Management to continuously improve upon technical and process related policies and procedures while providing support and advisement to Technician I's, II's, III's.
- Oversees & directs support and coordination for high priority incidents.
- Able to oversee and support work with multiple carrier and/or intra-department technicians for further troubleshooting/isolation of layer 1 - 3 issues
- Be responsible for ensuring Xcel Energy and OSHA requirements are met for jobsite
