Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Tunnel Resident/Deputy Engineer for construction inspection services to oversee the construction of new tunnels across the Northeast. The job is on-site, full-time and candidate needs to be willing to travel within the Northeast U.S.
The Tunnel Resident/Deputy Engineer is a full-time on-site role. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting routine inspections of civil infrastructure, identifying defects and potential hazards, and documenting contract compliance. The selected candidate will also be responsible for producing detailed reports and communicating findings to management and have primary responsibility for assuring the quality of the construction.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Observe Contractor’s construction activities.
- Accept work completed in compliance with contract documents, rejects defective work, maintains log of rejected work, assists with resolution of construction issues.
- Coordinate with Contractor to identify upcoming work; verifies upcoming work against issued look ahead schedules.
- Supervise project engineers for near surface and tunnelling work.
- Review contract requirements, submittals, shop drawings, and other associated documentation.
- Communicate daily with the Construction Manager and Contractor's field team in execution of his/her duties.
- Track progress of work in the field.
- Monitor Contractor’s adherence to schedule and provides input on Contractor’s payment requests.
- Inspect work for conformance with contract documents, approved change orders, clarifications, etc.; identifies and reports all nonconforming work; documents all work with daily reports, photos and videos.
- Track and verify Contractor time and material or force account work.
- Conduct inspections to ensure that the work is performed in compliance with the contract documents.
- Ensure delivered materials comply with approved submittals and is the correct product from approved vendors.
- Observe and approve Contractor’s testing and QA/QC activities.
- Maintain necessary project documentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports and logs.
- Prepare other required field documentation as necessary
- Provide input for construction changes. Assist with preparation and negotiation of field orders and change orders
- Tracking quantities installed on daily basis and prepare T&M reports as appropriate
- Observe implementation of health and safety procedures and practices.
- Verify Contractor maintenance of As-Built drawings; confirm with Contractor that this is being carried out; review look-ahead schedules. Verification that work is in accordance with the approved shop drawing and sample Submittals
- Experience with tunnel design, including some type of contact with FEM for tunnel design.
- Experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager on projects of at least $100 million.
- Technical understanding of Tunneling and Mining Construction.
- Perform other assignments as determined by the Construction Manager or Senior Resident Engineer.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with Scheduling software (i.e. Microsoft Project), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- M.S. in Civil, Geology, Construction Management, Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
- PE license
