Senior Systems Engineer
Location: Hybrid – Morristown, NJ (2 days onsite initially, then onsite support as needed)

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer for a 6-month contract-to-hire position. The ideal candidate will have expertise in NetApp storage, VMware, Hyper-V, Cisco UCS, and experience migrating VMware environments to Hyper-V. This role requires a strong background in optimizing data center operations, leading complex infrastructure projects, and implementing best practices for security, scalability, and system performance. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining data center solutions, configuring and optimizing storage and virtualization environments, managing Cisco UCS servers, and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ISO 27001 and NIST. The candidate will also be responsible for troubleshooting infrastructure-related issues, collaborating with vendors, maintaining documentation, and mentoring junior team members.
The successful candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Windows OS, DNS, Active Directory, DHCP, and GPO, along with expertise in VMware vSphere, NetApp storage solutions, and networking configurations such as VLANs. Hands-on experience with NAS/SAN attached data stores, physical-to-virtual migrations, and data protection strategies is essential. Additionally, the role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work across multiple. The position also involves participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support production systems and ensure operational continuity.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in system administration, including server and application support, virtualization, storage, and UCS support.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco UCS hardware and UCS Manager.
• Expertise in VMware vSphere (6.x and/or 7.x) with backend SAN via NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel SANs, or Hyperconverged Infrastructure (vSAN).
• Experience migrating VMware environments to Hyper-V is a MUST HAVE skill.
• Proficiency with Hyper-V related tools (ASR, Windows Server Backup, PowerShell for Hyper-V, SCVMM, Hyper-V Manager, Event Viewer, etc.
• Experience troubleshooting VMware, ESXi hosts, and HA events.
• Knowledge of internetworking concepts, including VLAN configurations.
