Job Title: Upper School English Teacher - Leave Replacement  

Division: Upper School 

Reports to: Head of Upper School and Chair of English Department 

Job Description:

The Upper School English Department seeks a dynamic English teacher to serve as a leave replacement through the fall and winter of the 2024-2025 school year. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities, consistent with expectations for all Upper School teachers, which consists of the primary teaching load of four sections.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching four sections of English 
  • Intense focus on developing reading, writing, inquiry, and critical analysis skills.
• Teacher Collaboration
  • Attends regular meetings for appropriate grade level English teacher teams as well as with student support teams to discuss student concerns and progress as necessary.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning, Upper School Dean of Students and School Counselors when appropriate to ensure students are being fully supported and challenged.
• Participate in all required meetings.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress as necessary.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (in English or related humanities field).
• At least 1 to 3 years of classroom teaching experience.
• A sound understanding of the developmental stages of high school students.
• Experience developing and implementing units of study aimed at skill development and content delivery in the English classroom.
• Ability and willingness to facilitate differentiated, student-centered best practices.
• Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery, autonomy of thought and skill development.
• Ability to be organized and manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail. 
• Demonstrated cross-cultural competence--ability to effectively teach, learn, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student body--in pedagogical practice and multicultural curriculum content. 
• Demonstrated capacity in culturally responsive professional practices, excellent communication skills, and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
• Demonstrated capacity to thrive in our diverse community, including but not limited to diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic status, ability/disability, belief, sexual orientation, and national origin according to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.  
• Must have a demonstrated alignment with King’s Mission and Virtues.
