About the role

Description

Director of Quality

Position Overview

Skorpios Technologies, Inc an innovator in composite silicon photonic technology and semiconductor development. We are in search of hard-working, motivated, and innovative employees to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment. This is an opportunity to work with a highly motivated, high performance technical team on highly differentiated, disruptive technologies.

The Director of Quality is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the architecture, implementation, and governance of the organization’s Quality Management System (QMS). A primary focus of this role is leading the facility through its initial ISO 9001 certification and establishing the framework for ongoing recertification and operational excellence.

The Director has ultimate authority over product compliance and shipment readiness, ensuring all products meet rigorous customer, regulatory, and internal standards for safety and reliability.

Essential Responsibilities

  • ISO Certification Roadmap: Lead the strategic planning and execution of the facility’s initial ISO 9001 certification. This includes conducting gap analyses, establishing documentation hierarchies, and managing the relationship with external registrars.
  • QMS Architecture: Design, implement, and enforce a robust QMS tailored to semiconductor manufacturing. Develop and review standards, policies, and SOPs for all departments involved in production.
  • Compliance & Recertification: Own the end-to-end audit lifecycle, including internal audits, customer audits, and mandatory surveillance/recertification cycles to maintain standing.
  • Ultimate Release Authority: Exercise final decision-making authority regarding product shipments. Ensure no product leaves the facility unless it strictly adheres to regulatory and company standards.
  • Corrective Action & CAPA: Direct the investigation of quality concerns and customer complaints. Lead Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and root-cause investigations to prevent recurrence.
  • Vendor & Supply Chain Quality: Coordinate and assist with vendor inspections and audits. Resolve quality concerns with suppliers to ensure incoming material integrity.
  • Executive Reporting: Prepare and present quality metrics, audit findings, and compliance status to the Executive team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a proactive quality culture using statistical rigor to improve yield and reduce process variation across the fab.

Requirements

Competencies

  • Strategic Problem Solving: A results-driven approach with a keen eye for detail in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Leadership & Influence: Proven ability to promote a "Quality First" culture and lead cross-functional teams without direct supervisory authority (influencing without authority).
  • Analytical & Statistical Rigor: Expert knowledge of process improvement methodologies including 8D, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean, and SPC (Statistical Process Control).
  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of ISO 9001 standards and semiconductor-specific quality requirements.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills, capable of presenting complex technical quality data to executive leadership and external auditors.

Required Education and Experience

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing) or a related technical field.
  • Tenure: 10+ years of progressive experience in Quality, Operations, and/or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Semiconductor Expertise: Direct technical exposure in semiconductor and/or opto-electronic device manufacturing (cleanroom environments).
  • Certification Track Record: Must have successfully led at least one manufacturing facility through an initial ISO 9001 (or similar) certification process, followed by successful recertification cycles.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Advanced Degree: Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business (MBA).
  • Specialized Knowledge: Silicon photonics or communications product experience is highly valued.
  • Professional Certification: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Manager (CQM).
