Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer / Sr. Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The candidate will have responsibility for design and/or integration of aircraft mechanical systems, including the development of mechanical architecture and source selection of components for an aircraft platform.

Responsibilities and duties:

• The candidate will have responsibility for design and development of mechanical systems architecture (e.g., utility mechanisms, flight control systems, up-lock and down-lock systems, gear drive systems, etc.)

• The candidate will have responsibility for specification and selection of aircraft mechanical systems components (e.g., electromechanical and/or hydraulic rotary/linear drive actuators, geared rotary actuators, door drive systems, etc.)

• The candidate will have responsibility for qualification and certification of mechanical systems components

• The candidate will provide support to lab testing and verification activities

• The candidate will be responsible for integration activities, requiring coordination with stakeholders (Structural/Subsystem Design/Analysis Teams, Supplier Management Teams, Software Teams, Vehicle Management Systems Teams, etc.)

• The candidate will be required to attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates. 

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, well-organized with good problem-solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, team coordination and mentoring skills.  The successful candidate will also thrive in an aircraft development design environment and be able to react and quickly adapt to changes in aircraft configuration.

This role may be filled as a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer / Sr. Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer based on the qualifications outlined below. 

Basic Qualifications:

• Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer - Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of engineering experience OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of engineering experience OR PhD and 1 year of engineering experience

• Sr. Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer - Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of engineering experience OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of engineering experience OR OR PhD and 4 years of engineering experience

• Prior experience or familiarity with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software applications

• Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determin
