Registered Nurse - PT

The Registered Nurse provides primary care nursing services in an outpatient clinic during the Fall and Spring semesters (9 month, full time position).

Job Duties:

• Provides nursing triage, assessment of the physical and emotional condition of the student patient, provides appropriate care and treatment
• Ability to work independently using decision making judgement with regard to nursing diagnosis and treatment (using Standing Orders)
• Documents effectively and accurately in an Electronic Medical Record (PyraMED)
• Collects and performs CLIA waived point of care laboratory testing of patient specimens
• Proficient in phlebotomy skills.  Prepares specimens to send out to reference lab
• Performs therapeutic measures and nursing services ordered by health center Physicians and Nurse Practitioners to include dispensing and administering medications, vaccines, allergy injections, ear lavage, wound care and EKG
• Works closely with the Medical Provider to assist with women's health exams, I&Ds, suturing, eye trays and other tasks as needed.  Acts as a chaperone during sensitive exams.
• Ability to recognize and take prompt action during emergency situations
• Responds to telephone and email inquiries, and effectively triages through clear communication.  Schedules patients to be seen as appropriate
• Maintains quality, safety and infection control standards
• Coordinates appointments and completes follow up on referrals to radiology and community specialists
• Provides information and instructions regarding preventative health, health practices and self-care
• Maintains patient privacy and the security of patient information

Qualifications:

• BSN preferred, with at least 3 years of experience
• Current NC Registered Nurse License
• Current certification in BLS CPR/AED
• Previous experience in college health, public health, primary care or urgent care/emergency room experience preferred
