PersonioAbout the role
The Role: How you'll make an impact at Personio
This position is based in New York City, and in some cases remote can be considered for the following states: MI, NJ, SC, VT, WA.
At Personio, we are on an amazing hyper growth journey towards becoming the leading HR Platform in Europe! We’re looking for experienced Platform Engineers who are up to the challenge of helping the Product & Technology department break new ground in Personio’s first ever US based office in New York. Engineers who will play a key role in helping to shape and integrate the engineering culture with their colleagues across seven existing European locations!
This role resides within our Technology Platform domain (TPF). TPF are responsible for ensuring our application adheres to the highest technical standards, and ensuring our engineers have the tools and infrastructure to achieve this. We measure engineering excellence through core metrics of software development delivery. We use these metrics to drive initiatives that enable our peer engineering teams to build, test, deploy, monitor and operate Personio to the highest industry standards.
Within TPF sits our Developer Experience (DX) tribe, which comprises multiple teams. Collectively within DX we enable other engineers to build, test and deploy code quickly, easily and reliably on their own. We focus on maximizing engineering efficiency, by developing and distributing robust and practical development tools, building scalable DevOps processes, and advocating for software development best practices. As a member of DX your focus will be on building tooling solutions which reduce the complexity and risk of developing, deploying and releasing software.
The DX Platform Engineer is a high-impact, cross-functional role at the heart of our engineering organization. The tribe supports our internal engineering teams throughout the complete development lifecycle of Personio, using a unique mix of developer and SRE skill sets to enable our product engineers to take advantage of everything the platform provides while also minimizing the cognitive load required to do so.
Responsibilities:- You will work across multiple teams and backlogs within the DX space, helping to define the tribe's long term technical strategy and provide expert technical consultation to engineers embedded within teams
- You will research, engineer and experiment with new ways to improve the developer experience and DevOps practices to provide product teams with the capability to deploy on demand while also limiting any risk to the stability of production
- Your scope will include everything from how software components are built, tested, deployed, released and monitored across all environments, from the local machine straight through to our production clusters
- You will foster relationships and work closely with product teams to support them through architecture and infrastructure related migrations. Helping them understand their challenges and propose result-oriented solutions to improve their productivity
- You will act as a technical leader across the tribe and help improve the tribe’s engineering culture. Helping to improve the tribe's technical and operational excellence in cohesive ways
- When required, you can lead temporary task forces of engineers from across multiple teams to deliver fast proof-of-concepts
- You will use your existing experience to help drive the platform forward with new ideas and strategies that help maintain the quality, reliability, security, performance and cost effectiveness of the product and platform
- You will partner with multiple engineering managers, keeping them up to date and informed with technical details across multiple projects. Helping to ensure the tribe is delivering results in an iterative fashion that is driven by impact and promotes a culture of experimentation and learning
Role Requirements: What you need to succeed
- 10+ years of software engineering experience building and designing scalable applications, tools or distributed systems. You understand the needs of software engineers working in product teams, you’ve been in their shoes, and can empathize with them. You want to help your fellow engineers to achieve maximum efficiency
- You have leadership experience and can act as a technical mentor and role model to other engineers. Ideally, leading pair and mob programming sessions, as well as setting up and running technical brainstorming and solution design sessions
- You can provide a technical strategic perspective to a group of other leaders within the tribe, including engineering managers
- You have a strong expertise with at least one of our tech stacks: Java/Kotlin (JVM, Gradle, SpringBoot), TypeScript (Node, Express, React). In particular, you’re comfortable with the intricacies of their build ecosystems
