Job Summary:

Work involves planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating leisure service programs focused on nature and the environment. The supervisor will hire, evaluate, and train staff at the nature parks. There is latitude for independent judgment in creating programs and following established policies and procedures. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Recreation, Park & Arts Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

Management

• Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities
• Follows suggested procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety, and risk avoidance
• Directs staff in program development and direct care of children in a nature camp
• Monitors a program budget of expenses and revenues

Technical

• Plans, implements, and evaluates multiple nature-based programs
• Develops special events by assessing needs, planning and organizing activities, supervising the event, and conducting an event evaluation
• Submittal for Play Catalog and marketing submittal requests for assigned programs; reviews and oversees website updates
• Prepares fliers, brochures, and other marketing materials
• Assists with contract management for instructors, professional services, and rentals
• Monitors facility schedule, work orders, daily inspections, and repair and maintenance issues; conducts event and program set-ups and all activities for opening and closing of the facility
• Supervises team members and volunteers, usage of the recreation system, cash registers, and telephone support; oversees customer service in the office for recreation and park patrons
• Assists with the development and implementation of a facility calendar for programs, building rentals, and special events
• Enforces rules, regulations, and safety precautions; evaluates safety concerns and makes recommendations for improvements; reviews all injury and incident reports on assigned shift; maintains order and discipline of participants
• Prepares and processes monthly reports, payroll, purchases, requisitions, program evaluations, personnel paperwork, and correspondence
• Handles recreation system maintenance and updating of activity and facility information
• May prepare and complete grant submittal and follow-up grant reporting, working closely with Recreation Administration
• Responsibilities include coordination of a volunteer program, directing a summer camp, and coordinating nature-themed classes and events
• Develops nature-themed lesson plans and ensures that they are implemented in summer camp and facility programs
• Schedules volunteers and facility maintenance projects
• Collects payments and ensures that program fees are paid by those registered
• Purchases needed supplies for the nature center within an allocated budget
• Conducts daily site inspection of the nature park and center
• Prepares daily cash reports for all transactions at the nature center
• Oversees care and feeding of all animals at the nature park
• Trains volunteers in care and handling of animals
