SEASONAL/EXTRA HELP ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

The salary range for this position is $28.28 hourly.

Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for five (5) Seasonal/Extra Help Engineering Technician I positions for our Design Engineering (1), Survey (2), Traffic Operations (1), and Construction (1) work groups to support project delivery. Specific tasks include collecting delivery tickets on construction projects, survey staking, traveling in the County Road View (CRView) van and entering data into a computer for road ratings activities, assisting design with basic activities on capital projects during the busy construction season, and more. 

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Assists civil engineers in preparing road, bridge, utility and stormwater plans, including all plan specifications and estimate preparation, alignment determination, design computations, drainage and pavement design, geometrics, capacity and cost estimates.
• Computes pay estimate quantities. Prepares estimates for change orders on construction projects for approval by a project engineer.
• Performs general engineering calculations, drafting, testing, data/material collection, database maintenance, analysis and related reporting or report preparation. 
• Prepares, reviews and monitors traffic control signing and flagging procedures, plans and layouts to ensure compliance with standards.
• Determines preliminary survey needs for proposed construction projects.  Locates and collects field topography of existing structures, road facilities and utilities in the project limits. Provides control survey for the layout of the section subdivision and right of way for the project. Sets aerial targets and locates the horizontal and vertical position of each target.
• Operates, maintains, and cleans various survey, engineering and construction instruments and tools.

Essential Personnel: This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.
