ICF is seeking a Senior Public Involvement Specialist. This person will lead and support a broad range of public and private infrastructure projects by planning, organizing, developing and managing deliverables, and attending outreach events including Public Meetings and Hearings. The ideal candidate would bring initiative, inquisitiveness, a comfort with ambiguity and an enthusiasm for understanding and solving problems in a team-based environment. The candidate would also bring strong writing and management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and an ability to work on fast-paced projects. This position is based in our Austin, Texas, office and involves periodic travel.
What you will being doing:
- Coordinate and lead logistics for public outreach events, including securing venues, contacting newspapers, and contracting technical support staff such as translators, court reporters, and audio technicians
- Manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient, on-time procurement
- Coordinate and lead public outreach efforts for environmental and planning projects
- Participate in public outreach events
- Serve as a liaison between the project’s technical and public involvement teams, and work with varied groups and individuals
- Develop and produce public involvement plans, public information materials, brochures, exhibit boards, presentations, and summary reports
- Develop and maintain internal and external public involvement schedules and deliverables
- Review, manage, and QA/QC project deliverables to ensure internal and external consistency and quality of documentation
What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):
- BA/BS degree in communications, public relations, environmental sciences, transportation planning, environmental planning or similar discipline
- 5+ years professional experience supporting contracting, procurement, vendor management and/or related experience
What we’d like you to have (preferred but not required):
- Comfort speaking in front of large audiences
- English/Spanish bilingual
- TxDOT Pre-Certification (1.8.1)
Professional skills you will use:
- Strong communication skills and exceptional writing and proofing skills are required for both internal and external interaction. This role requires a confident self-starter who has an attention to detail, displays a high degree of initiative and has the ability to work independently under minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment
- The right fit for this position will be someone with strong interpersonal skills who is comfortable working with a diverse group of colleagues and clients and who is cooperative and willing to learn from their peers
- Computer skills should include the MS Office Suite along with excellent technical writing and communication skills (A writing sample may be requested)
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, including ability to prioritize and multi-task under strict or competing deadlines
- Excellent writing and proofing skills including the ability to manage quality across multiple, interdependent sets of documents
- Desire to take initiative and support the team in whatever ways are needed
- Deep curiosity to learn new technologies, new regulations, and new tools
- Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to succeed with new and challenging tasks
