Pharmacy Technician Student

The Pharmacy Technician Student is an entry-level full-time technician student completing the training program provided by Inova. Upon successful completion of the program and receipt of PTCB certification and licensing the candidate will be placed into a Pharmacy Technician 1 position as available. For those candidates that are already certified Pharmacy Technicians with limited or no hospital experience, the successful completion of the program and experiential training will serve as the experience necessary to be placed into a Pharmacy Technician 1 position. 

This is full-time Monday-Friday.

Job Responsibilities:

• Completes the didactic modules of the Pharmacy Technician Training program at the pace set by the director of the program with a passing grade on each module.
• Asks for assistance if a concept or module is difficult to complete and more assistance is needed.
• If the maximum number of attempts at a unit test are exceeded, student must ask for remediation of the subject and director of program can authorize additional attempts once the remediation is completed.
• Modules include Basic Pharmaceutics, Basic Anatomy and Physiology, Vaccines, Pharmacology, Pharmacy Operations, Billing, Special Medication Handling, Inventory Control, Emergency Preparedness, Sterile and non-sterile compounding, Unit-dose packaging, Communication and Calculations.
• Completes simulations as required.
• Completes experiential modules at the sites assigned and requirements of each site must be met.
• Attends regular check ins with program director.
• Completes and passes final review test with passing score.
• Once eligible, takes and passes the PTCB certification exam to be eligible to move into a Pharmacy Technician I position at Inova if one is available.

• Complete and pass the math and reading pre-test prior to beginning the program.
