ABOUT THE ROLE

The CO2 Transportation and Storage Development Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing our large-scale carbon capture initiatives across North America. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement projects for the transportation and storage of captured CO2 from our cement plants. This role requires a unique combination of technical subsurface expertise and commercial acumen, ideally starting from a foundational career as a geologist or reservoir engineer before transitioning into a business /commercial role. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to Holcim’s sustainability and environmental goals by leading critical aspects of our carbon capture, use, and storage strategy. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Design and oversee the implementation of CO2 transportation and storage solutions to support carbon capture projects.

  • Collaborate with third-party CO2 transport and storage developers and contractors to represent Holcim's interests and ensure project alignment with our strategic goals.

  • Support in engaging with government agencies to secure necessary funding, permits and support, including but not limited to the US Department of Energy's CarbonSAFE program, the US EPA for Class 6 well permits, and Alberta's CO2 sequestration permitting.

  • Evaluate and mitigate technical and commercial risks associated with CO2 transport and storage.

  • Support the negotiation of contracts and agreements with service providers and partners.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.

  • Support permitting obligations associated with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Class VI well permit applications, including overseeing third-party consultants performing tasks related to permit acquisition and operations-related reporting.

  • Coordinate and interface with Engineering during the front-end engineering design and detailed engineering processes of the onshore and nearshore components of the CCS facilities.

  • Support in developing and executing Class VI well testing and monitoring plans and supervise submittal of reports and notifications to regulatory agencies, as required.

  • Serve as the Company's Subject Matter Expert on Class VI wells and maintain ongoing knowledge of applicable regulations, including analysis of proposed regulations and potential impacts on the Company's carbon capture facilities.

 

Required Education:  Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree

Additional Education Preferred:  Master's/Graduate Degree

Field of Study Preferred: Geology, Reservoir Engineering, Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.

Required Work Experience:  Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in CO2 transportation and storage related activities (e.g., drilling, completions, or production operations) with demonstrated technical and analytical skills.

Required Training/Certifications:  Professional certification related to project management is a plus.

Required Computer and Software Skills: Proficient in MS Office and Google software programs: Excel, PPT, Word, G-Drive Knowledge of document management softwares (preferred)

Travel Requirements:

  • Able to travel as needed for feasibility studies and support project managers
  • Travel required +/- 20% of the time. Mainly in the USA and Canada

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment (“PPE”), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
