Position Summary: The Kramer School of Nursing occasionally has openings for part-time temporary adjunct instructors teaching graduate courses in the MSN, Ph.D., and DNP programs. Applying for a part-time adjunct teaching appointment allows faculty chairs from across the College to access candidate materials if/when a teaching need arises throughout the current or future academic year. Learn more about graduate degree programs here.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct formal classes
  • Supervise student clinical experiences and communicate with preceptors and clinical staff
  • Evaluate student learning, skills, and abilities and maintain records of such evaluations
  • Serve the University and the Kramer School of Nursing, including volunteer options to serve on committees
  • Retain clinical and/or role function excellence through continued education and practice
  • Adhere to all policies within the Oklahoma City University Faculty Handbook, KSN Faculty Handbook, the OCU Student Handbook, the KSN Student Handbook, and the KSN Graduate Clinical/Practicum Handbook.
  • Participate in university activities and professional organizations as a member and a leader as desired
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Evidence of current practice with a minimum of two (2) years full time equivalent practice as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting preceding the first date of first employment as a teacher
  • For advanced practice programs, minimum of two (2) years full time equivalent practice as an advanced practice nurse. 
  • Current, unencumbered license in the state of Oklahoma and/or a compact license

Program Specific Qualifications:

MSN Program: 

  • Master of Science in Nursing 

DNP Program: 

  • Master of Science in Nursing in an advanced practice specialty 
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice with current certification in an advanced practice specialty 

PhD and DNP Programs: 

  • Doctorate in nursing or related field or evidence of substantial post-master's qualifications to teach graduate courses

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Computer skills sufficient to deliver online instruction (if applicable), navigate course management software, and common Microsoft Office applications
  • Flexible teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles
  • Ability to maintain course schedule through regular, punctual attendance

Additional Information:

  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
    • The work requirements for this position include teaching during daytime and some evening hours depending upon the needs of the department and its students. Most traditional classes are held in the Kramer School of Nursing building on the OCU campus.  The online-only MSN program is delivered remotely.  
    • For those who are assigned to teach remotely, the university currently supports residency in the following states only: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, New Mexico, Oregon, and Virginia.
    • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. 
    • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach. 
    • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other business machines efficiently 
    • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens 
    • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone 
    • Stamina to teach clinical practicum on site with timely access by students if assigned such duties 
    • Work is primarily indoors but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus. 
    • Incumbents will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines. 
    • Access to a personal vehicle and ability to drive in a variety of locations (urban/rural) and travel up to four (4)-to-five (5) hours for in-person practicum visits 
    • Some assignments that take place in clinical facilities may involve potential exposure to factors typically present in health care institutions.
