A Lot About You

As a Backend Software Development Engineer for the Video team, you will be working on all the different components that deliver video metadata and content to our Front End websites, mobile apps and Video Players, including on-line API services and off-line processing pipelines. You will be collaborating with different teams to brainstorm ideas, define architectures, design software and build services and components.

Responsibilities

You would be part of defining the foundations of the infrastructure that will power the Video backend that can support the next generation of products at Yahoo, using the latest in cloud services, frameworks and open source tools
Help to scope, plan, and implement best-in-class software practices, procedures, and delivery
Contribute to implementation guidelines and execution strategy for your team’s goals
Collaborate with your peers, product managers, and engineering leaders on new features and enhancements
Support production deployments and debug issues that may come up from time to time.

Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
Strong fundamentals: algorithms, distributed computing, data structures, databases and networking
Experience with implementing services and components using AWS (GCP is nice-to-have)
Experience designing, implementing and maintaining REST, GraphQL and GRPC based web services
Have recent experience with Java, Python, or other OO programming languages with a solid understanding of OO design principles, concurrent programming, performance tuning and observability
Predisposition towards testing, instrumentation, and documentation.
Proficiency in managing APIs and integrating third-party APIs
Understanding of CDNs and HTTP
Solid experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and version control
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform
In-depth knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch)
